As a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture uses fine, single-use needles to stimulate specific Acupoints in the body. Stimulation of these acupoints can encourage natural healing by improving circulation, decreasing inflammation, reducing pain, and elevating a person’s mood and energy level. Acupuncture can be used in conjuction with physiotherapy to deliver optimal results.

Things to note regarding acupuncture:

  • Acupuncture at our clinic is performed by certified physiotherapists, not acupuncturists.

  • It is recommended to refrain from alcohol, caffeine, and smoking two hours prior to and after treatment.

  • Have a light snack prior to treatment.

  • Needles may be in your skin for 15 – 20 minutes for optimal results.

  • If you have a pacemaker or are trying to conceive/are pregnant, please inform your therapist as you may not be a suitable candidate for acupuncture.

Is Acupuncture painful?

  • When the needle is inserted into the skin, you may feel a warm sensation or a mild ache.

  • This is a normal response and is referred to as “Qi”.

Is there an additional charge for Acupuncture?

  • No. At our clinic, the cost of needles is included in your usual physiotherapy fees.

How many treatments do I need for relief?

  • Treatment frequency varies as each individual has unique needs. Most clients experience significant relief within 6-12 treatments, but many do note relief after 2-3 as well.
